Road Trip Extraordinaire – 4 cool tools to make your next road trip count!
It’s probably safe to say that nothing beats a road trip. The sheer thrill of leaving home and going somewhere, the novelty of being on the road for several days, the chaotic hassle of looking for a place to eat lunch, everyone has their own reasons, but one thing is for sure – we all love road trips. However, I wouldn’t go so far as to say that there’s nothing you can do to make your next road trip even better. Here’s four convenient apps that will help you save time and money, and make some extra memories along the way:
Roadside America (iOS) – in my opinion, this is one of the best apps available for spicing up your road trip. Roadside America is a specialized navigation app that warns you whenever you approach a tourist attraction. Did you know that the about that the world’s largest totem pole in Foyil, Oklahoma? Well, Roadside Attraction does, and it’ll send a notification to your phone if you happen to be passing by. With the integrated ability to keep track of where you’ve already been, plan routes and read reviews, you’ll never find yourself lacking entertainment on the go. It’s pretty much the same as taking your know-it-all friend with you, except it doesn’t complain or expect your praise every single comment.
iExit (available for iOS and Android) – another incredibly convenient app, built specifically for road trips. Where Roadside America will help with all your sightseeing needs, iExit is catered to everything else. By using your phone’s GPS system, iExit informs you, in real time, where and what you can find on the closest interstate exit. Finding an exit with what you need can be difficult at times (like when issued an unexpected bathroom request), especially if you’ve already passed the information boards without paying much attention, but iExit resolves this problem instantly. If Roadside America is your well-versed know-it-all pal, then iExit is your practical buddy, who’s been up and down this route hundreds of times before and knows where to stop for lunch, every single time.
GasBuddy – speaking of buddies, GasBuddy is another great app, designed to help you save a little extra cash when on the go. GasBuddy relies on up-to-date information to help you find the cheapest gas prices near you. Everyone who’s ever gone on a road trip can attest to it’s convenience. We’ve all been in a similiar situation before – running low on gas, you stop at the closest gas station, fuel up, but 20 miles later you pass by another gas station that’s 20 cents cheaper! This can be pretty frustrating, especially if you’re on a tight budget, which makes GasBuddy a must have.
Hotel Tonight – a great app for those who never know where they’ll end up stopping, Hotel Tonight not only helps you find nearby accommodation at cheap prices, it also let’s you book it instantly, on the go. Hotel Tonight isn’t just a last-minute booking tool, though. It also rewards those of us looking to save a little extra. Some hotels provide large discounts for unsold rooms near the end of the day (up to 70%), and with Hotel Tonight, you might just find yourself driving a few extra miles to save a few hundred bucks!
